Stand by Your Man

Or, in the case of Bush, your lackey. He's once more reiterated his full support for Gonzales.

"He has done nothing wrong," Bush said in an impassioned defense of his longtime friend and adviser during a news conference at his Texas ranch...."I stand by Al Gonzales, and I would hope that people would be more sober in how they address these important issues," Bush said. "And they ought to get the job done of passing legislation, as opposed to figuring out how to be actors on the political theater stage."

With five GOP Senators calling for Gonzo's resignation, and Specter all but pleading with him to do so on the Sunday shows, the upcoming no confidence votes will put some pressure on these guys to put their votes where their mouths are. One suspect Specter would love nothing more than Gonzales's resignation, to take him off the spot on this upcoming vote. Making those Republicans squirm on this vote makes it worth it in and of itself. Add in the political pressure of the just announced Impeach Gonzales by DFA and BraveNewFilms, this is one issue that's not going to go away for Gonzo, for Bush, or for the GOP.

Because however much the Republicans in Congress might prefer to have done with him, Bush needs him there. Having a real attorney general who actually respected and followed the rule of law just wouldn't work.

Update: Here's the BraveNewFilms/DFA video.

Update by kos: How far has Bush fallen on this issue? The no-confidence motion in the House has been introduced by Reps. Adam Schiff (CA) and Artur Davis (AL). Schiff is a Blue Dog, while Davis is a conservative Southern Dem.
